Tarotscopes for the New Moon Solar Eclipse

On Tuesday, October 2, 2024, we have a new moon solar eclipse in Libra. You’ll hear astrologers talking about it marking an ending, a release, and even complete transformation. That’s because it’s the last of a set of eclipses in the sign, and it’s at the South Node. While it might feel like something new is beginning, all beginnings also signify an ending, so your attention may naturally shift toward what needs to be left behind.

I wanted to share some creative tarotscopes for this upcoming new moon. I hope they help you notice how you’re transforming and aligning, and also guide you in tending to unfinished work or releasing what’s no longer serving you.

Tarotscopes for the Libra Eclipse

These tarotscopes were channeled for your rising sign, but feel free to read for your sun or moon sign—or all three—if you feel called.

Libra: Queen of Cups

Fellow Libras—this is a card I have pulled so many times in the past several months, both for myself and for others. To be honest, I’ve had a hard time with its message for myself, but it feels a bit clearer here. The eclipse is happening in our first house of self. I also find that many (most?) Libras are either in helping professions or tend to be helpers to loved ones. The Queen of Cups is telling us that we have released (or need to do more releasing of) a lot of our people-pleasing tendencies, as well as our tendency to put others’ needs above our own. In a creative context, this means taking the time to create. Not having that time be negotiable. We require creative time—not want it, require it—in order to truly live. It’s hard to take that time when we feel that others are depending on us and when we’re unaccustomed to doing something that feels selfish. Creating is not selfish! Taking time for yourself to touch in with that part of you is not self-serving! I’m telling myself this as much as I am telling you. Creating is a fundamental part of who we are.

Scorpio: Justice

This is such an interesting and perfect card for you, Scorpio. This eclipse is activating your 12th House—the house of hidden things, unconscious, the psyche. And Justice (ruled by Libra, no less), as my teacher Lindsay Mack describes it, can talk about uncovering the truth about something—and how that unearthing or new clarity can shift our relationship/approach to that thing. Justice rights a wrong, brings balance. Perhaps this eclipse is bringing up something long buried, or a hidden aspect you’re ready to bring to light. As this eclipse is an ending, perhaps there’s a story or belief you need to fully release. This process of deep introspection and acknowledging truths can be profoundly creative—if you let it be. Can you spend some time journaling about these topics? Can you let yourself sit in the discomfort of what you’ve hidden away, whether on purpose or unintentionally?

Sagittarius: Knight of Coins

You may have been in a process of preparing for something, potentially as it relates to your community or friend groups. It may be feeling slow, drawn out—perhaps you’ve been blocked from taking the next step or moving into a new role; perhaps it’s been a struggle to find your place or make new friendships. If you let it, this eclipse may show you why it has taken so long or why you’ve been unable to take the next step. The Knight of Coins (Pentacles) can point to sacred timing, as well as listening to our intution for cues on when to take the next step. Whatever it is you’re waiting to do, your pace is sacred. Listen to your gut and go when it tells you its time. Try automatic writing—just let the pen stay on the page and write whatever comes.

Capricorn: Seven of Cups

The Seven of Cups here feels like an interesting contrast to the idea of the eclipse being an ending (or a beginning). But what I think it’s saying here is that there is something you’ve been waiting to decide upon—possibly related to your job or any public-facing roles—but there’s been no clarity on when or how to make that decision. And what I think this card is asking of you is to release the idea that there’s even a decision to make. Perhaps you’ve been pushing aside something in service of waiting for a moment to move forward or take action. And maybe there is no next step. No action. And that doesn’t necessarily mean there never will be, but the timing is wrong. Or you’re meant to go in a completely different way. Can you release any ideas you have of what’s supposed to be next? Maybe let yourself sit with the uncertainty for awhile? Turn to your creative self as you do, and turn the discomfort into art.

Aquarius: Two of Cups

Two of Cups is very straightforward: It talks about radical self-love, a call to embrace all your parts—even/especially the ones that are hard for you to love and accept. This eclipse is occurring in the area of your chart related to higher education, travel, and even belief systems and/or wisdom. Whatever conflict you're feeling around those—or really any—themes, you’re being asked to attend to the roots of that conflict. To love the part of you that feels tender or unlovable. This eclipse might illuminate a part of you that needs your full, unconditional love. And doing so is what will open up possibility and answers for you. Consider making a self-love altar, essentially an altar to yourself, and let yourself worship you, even if just for a minute.

Pisces: Four of Coins

Hey, Pisces. You need a break. Like, a deep, restful one. You’ll need to put up some boundaries to ensure that happens, but with the Four of Coins (Pentacles) and the eclipse activating your 8th House… whew. The 8th house is one of those deeply spiritual, underworld-connected houses. It contains themes around mental health and death (literal or symbolic), so of course it can feel haunted or wounded/wounding. Grief, sex, trauma, the shadow—these are all 8th house concerns, and you need to let your body rest because of the way these themes have been impacting you—possibly for the past year or so as we’ve been moving through these Libra eclipses. Please let yourself rest and recover. The end is in sight, but you need to care for yourself, even if it feels like it prolongs the process. Do whatever makes you feel safest for the next few days. Let yourself feel cared for and held.

Aries: The Moon

Libra rules your 7th House of relationships and collaborations. The Moon is an invitation to hang out in the void, which can sound terrifying. This combo might mean that you have been dealing with relationship things (be that ‘issues,’ endings, beginnings, evolutions) and that now is the time to release control and just be in the unknown. To trust that everything will work out. I’m not saying it will be easy, and your desire to take action will be in conflict with this, but if you can find ways to feel grounded or anchored that don’t rely on other people, you will have a far easier experience. Your relationships—including the one you have with yourself—will be better for it. Try taking yourself out on a date, doing something that feels wholly YOU—maybe something you wouldn’t ever do with someone else.

Taurus: Death

Death + your 6th House of daily work and health. What’s dying/already dead/needs to die? Perhaps the bad habits that are in conflict with how you want to structure your days? Or the bad habits that are affecting your health? The Death card is a clear indicator that something is no longer serving us. And, with the eclipse activating your 6th House, it’s likely that there are some specific habits or tendencies that need to go in order for you to have a better routine or be in better health. Map out your current habits, routines, and daily structure. What’s draining your energy? What’s out of balance? Now map out your ideal day. Make a plan to close the gap.

Gemini: King of Coins

I truly hope you’re feeling the ways you are showing up for your creativity and/or self-expression. If you’re not, can you take some time to really look at how you’ve changed in your creative practice, how you’re honoring your creative gifts, and/or how you are allowing yourself to do things for pleasure? Can you see where you are truly embodied, authentic, and in control? This doesn’t have to mean everything is perfect all the time, but you can be proud of yourself for what you’ve done to show up for this side of yourself. The 5th House—where the eclipse is happening for you—can also be where we engage with our inner child, so perhaps this is where you need to applaud yourself instead or in addition to your creativity. If you’ve been doing some deep inner child work, of course you have. Be proud of yourself.

Cancer: The Magician

Have you been grappling with themes around home, lineage, or safety? The Magician showing up seems to be inviting you to express yourself about it. Maybe you are feeling a pull to journal about changing relationships to your parents. Perhaps there’s a short story that’s been nagging at you to be written and get at some emotional truths about belonging. Or maybe you just want to take some aesthetic photos of your home because you’ve done a lot of work you’re proud of. Whatever is calling to be expressed—especially related to roots—should be prioritized.

Leo: The World

The World is a card of cycle completion, so very in line with this particular eclipse. Libra is in your house of writing, communication, crafts, and even siblings or extended family. What is being completed for you in any of those areas? It doesn’t always have to be a huge, obvious completion—like a finished project. Sometimes it’s the smaller endings—unlearing the communication habits that drain you, like feeling like you have to respond to emails and texts the moment you get them. Or letting go of stories you’ve been told/have told yourself that simply aren’t true. Whatever strides you’ve made are worth celebrating. The leaving behind is permanent and ushers you into the next cycle.

Virgo: Two of Wands

Two of Wands feels like an exciting spark that you need to prepare to engage with. Maybe this is a new business idea, a side hustle you want to try, or even a new approach to money, resources, or values. Before you move into it, taking stock of what you have, what you need, and who you can trust will help you be fully prepared for what’s to come. Libra is about balance, so you can also take this opportunity to ensure you aren’t being swept up in the financial side of things, and are considering the spiritual and relational realm as well.
